Foods That Boost Your Energy Level

Who couldn’t use a little boost now and then? We could all benefit from a little extra energy! But no matter how much sleep you get or how much coffee you drink, few things are as helpful for adding a little energy to your day as eating the right fuel. So, what can you eat to help put a pep in your step without making you feel sluggish or lazy?

Check out these options to boost your energy level whenever you need a pick-me-up:

Fish

Most varieties of fish are good sources of protein and B vitamins, which give you energy. And fatty fish varieties like salmon, tuna, and sardines are higher in omega-3 fatty acid content than other kinds of fish, which reduces inflammation around the body — that keeps you moving with less pain.

Avocado

Avocados are one of the best foods out there in terms of nutrition and energy. They contain protein, good fats, and fiber, all of which can contribute to sustained energy levels throughout the day. Try including an avocado in your breakfast or as a mid-morning snack to power you through until lunch, or even later.

Fruits

Various fruits like bananas, strawberries, apples, oranges, and certain berries are healthy in all sorts of ways because of the many nutrients they provide. (Avocados are also technically a fruit!) And certain fruits like blueberries and goji berries are particularly high in antioxidants, which have multiple benefits for the body including an increase in energy. Since fruits are so easily portable, they make for great energy-boosters on-the-go.

Eggs

A large hard-boiled egg contains around 6 grams of protein, not to mention plenty of vitamins and minerals. That’s why eggs are such a good breakfast food — they provide energy for hours while tasting delicious! Of course, you can eat eggs as part of any meal or just as a snack whenever you want a little extra lift in your day.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is another one of those foods that we tend to associate with breakfast, but it can work whenever you’re in the mood. And because oats have plenty of fiber, minerals, and vitamins, they can help give you a little bit of extra energy.

Nuts

Nuts give your body a good blend of carbohydrates, fats, and protein, plus vitamins and minerals. All of that is great for energy. Just don’t overdo it, since many nuts tend to be high in calories.

The Energy You Need for Your Busy Day

Next time you’re looking for a healthy snack that won’t leave you tired and sluggish an hour later, turn to one of the options above. You can feel good about eating them and you’ll notice a difference in your energy level!
