First it was good, plain spring water flying out of vending machines, but now apparently customers are increasingly reaching for carbonated water. Sales of the beverage have more than DOUBLED over the last 5 years! Sparkling water brands like San Pellegrino and Perrier are seeing record prices.

The Washington Post did a pretty interesting write up on it, where they theorize that it has something to do with wanting bubbles and fizz, but not the unhealthy stuff that comes a long with soda.
