Mayor Rahm Emanuel has challenged Chicago businesses to change the snacks available to employees in their vending machines, according to Redeye, a Chicago Tribune News site. Businesses can choose to participate by going to a gold, silver or bronze vending policy meaning 100 percent, 75 percent or 50 percent of items respectively meet guidelines for healthy vending snacks based on the American Heart Association’s healthy food procurement standards. The city will then recognize the participants.
